The Stretching
My boy tried to run; they were faster. Surrounded again. Why was it always our fate; to be chosen? I was safe from harm; in the beginning, tucked away in the sturdy denim fabric. The whiteness of my covering was unseen, until that first day. He had fallen and then two hands grabbed me and pulled hard upwards. He tried to escape; his feet hovering above the ground; and could not. I felt myself being stretched past my limits; elastic tearing and unbearable pain. He cried; they laughed and then it was over, for now. Tomorrow was another day.
